The National Football League, Apple Music, and Jay-Z confirmed on Monday that the rapper will perform the halftime show for Super Bowl LXI. The announcement took place during a live broadcast of the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. The event is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Jay-Z released a statement reflecting on his career trajectory. He described the journey from his debut album Reasonable Doubt to the Super Bowl stage as a thirty year effort of music and cultural work. He characterized the upcoming performance as a dream realized on the world's largest stage. The announcement follows a recent five year contract extension that keeps Roc Nation, his company, producing the halftime shows through 2029.

Roc Nation has handled the production of the halftime performance since 2019. Under their stewardship, the shows have shifted their focus toward hip hop and rap artists. The previous edition took place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and featured Bad Bunny as the main act. Special appearances in that show included Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.

The last Super Bowl held in Los Angeles was in 2022. That performance featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar. The show also included interventions by 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak. More recent performers have included Kendrick Lamar and SZA in 2025, Usher in 2024, and Rihanna in 2023.

Despite his close ties to the NFL and many previous performers, Jay-Z has not acted at the Super Bowl until now. He is a winner of 25 Grammy Awards. The artist has been on tour this year to mark the thirtieth anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the twenty fifth anniversary of The Blueprint.

The tour, named Jay-Z 30, began with three nights at the Yankee Stadium in July. He subsequently performed two concerts in London and one in Paris in September. His final scheduled shows are set for October 23 and 24 at the SoFi Stadium. These dates will serve as a direct rehearsal for his upcoming Super Bowl appearance.
