The United States military is relocating a Patriot air and missile defense system from Texas to the Middle East. The move occurs as Washington and Israel prepare for potential combat operations against Iran. The Wall Street Journal reported the transfer on Tuesday. The system includes radar equipment, an engagement control station, missile launchers, and interceptor missiles.
US officials have warned several Gulf Arab nations to prepare for a short and intense military campaign. This preparation is expected to follow the midterm elections on November 3. Troops are moving from bases considered vulnerable to Iranian attacks. Munitions stockpiles are being replenished while bomber aircraft and fighter jets undergo preparation for possible strikes.
Naval forces in the region are also expanding. An additional aircraft carrier strike group and a Marine Expeditionary Unit are expected to join approximately 20 US warships already operating in the Middle East in November. Some vessels may rotate out during this period. This buildup follows an October 1 announcement that the USS Theodore Roosevelt and additional Marine personnel would be sent to the area.
President Donald Trump is weighing further military action against Iran. Reports indicate he has not made a final decision on launching another campaign. He is reportedly leaning toward strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure and nuclear facilities. A negotiated agreement remains a possible outcome.
Iran has threatened to expand retaliation if attacks resume. The country plans to target energy infrastructure, airports, and civilian facilities across the Persian Gulf. Two diplomatic sources said on October 15 that Tehran instructed Hezbollah to increase readiness for renewed conflict. A US official confirmed on Friday that Secretary of State Marco Rubio received an intelligence memorandum. The memo warned that Iranian efforts to target Americans have intensified.
The timing and scope of any renewed military campaign remain undetermined. The final decision on whether to launch strikes has not been announced. Current preparations focus on strengthening defenses and positioning forces for a potential engagement after the domestic election cycle concludes.
