Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott led a resurgent offensive unit to a 38-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the 3-4 Cowboys, who had previously fallen to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers. This result positions Dallas to challenge for the NFC East title, a trophy they have not won since 2023.
The Eagles, currently 2-5, fielded a depleted roster against their rivals. Backup quarterback Tanner McKee started in place of Jalen Hurts, and star running back Saquon Barkley played through a hamstring injury on one leg. Philadelphia defensive end Nolan Smith was the only starter missing from the defense due to a concussion. Despite these absences, the Cowboys dominated the statistical categories against the two-time defending division champions.
Prescott completed 212 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Running back Javonte Williams rushed for a career-high 150 yards on 25 carries, averaging 6.2 yards per attempt, and added a touchdown. Wide receiver CeeDee Lamb recorded 74 receiving yards and two scores on five catches, while George Pickens contributed a 21-yard diving reception. The Cowboys outgained the Eagles in the passing game, exploiting gaps in Philadelphia's pass coverage.
Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown returned from a hamstring injury that had sidelined him since Week 1. He recorded his first interception since 2024 during the game. Barkley managed 62 yards and a touchdown on seven carries for Philadelphia before pulling up after a 29-yard run late in the opening drive, indicating a potential aggravation of his hamstring.
Prescott now holds 39 wins in his first 40 starts against NFC East opponents. He has thrown 98 touchdown passes against 24 interceptions in those division games. This record ties Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes for the most wins in a quarterback's first 50 divisional starts since the 1970 AFL/NFL merger. Prescott also reestablished his connection with Lamb and Pickens, throwing three touchdowns to both receivers without an interception after a rough outing against Green Bay in Week 6.
Pickens has gained 260 receiving yards and two touchdowns over the last three games, a sharp increase from his 225 yards and zero touchdowns in Dallas' first four games. The Cowboys face a favorable schedule in the coming weeks, with their next five opponents holding a combined 13-22 record. Their only game against a team with a winning record in that span is the Week 10 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers at AT&T Stadium.
The New York Giants lead the NFC East with a 4-2-1 record. They will face the Cowboys in a crucial divisional contest to determine the standings as the season progresses.
