The Milwaukee Brewers finished the World Series with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night. The win secured the franchise's first championship in 58 seasons. It also marked the first title for Milwaukee since the Braves moved to Atlanta in 1966.
Jacob Misiorowski led the pitching staff with five and two-thirds scoreless innings. He threw 86 pitches, 58 of which were strikes. Misiorowski topped out at 103 miles per hour twice. He left the game with a right calf cramp. The crowd at Tropicana Field gave him a standing ovation.
Cooper Pratt contributed two hits and two runs batted in. He set a World Series rookie record with six consecutive hits. Jackson Chourio set a five-game Series record with 11 total hits. The team relied on contact hitting and small ball throughout the postseason.
Christian Yelich told reporters that the feeling was the best ever. He noted that the city had waited a long time for this moment. Yelich said the team was happy to bring the trophy home to fans who waited decades for this achievement.
Manager Pat Murphy described the 2026 team as one that would be remembered forever. He emphasized that the players cared about each other rather than individual statistics. Murphy credited the group's unity for their resilience during the series.
The Brewers held a 103-win regular season record. They posted an 11-2 mark in the playoffs. The team swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS. Their success came despite ranking 19th in major league payrolls as of August 31.
The Rays fell to 0-3 in World Series history. They had previously lost in 2008 and 2020. Tampa Bay became the fifth team to lose a series after trailing 3-0. The expansion club debuted in 1998 and has struggled to find postseason consistency.
Mark Attanasio, the principal owner, addressed fans from the postgame stage. He told the crowd that Milwaukee had waited 44 years for this championship. The celebration continued on the field as teammates mobbed closer Trevor Megill.
The next scheduled event is the start of a management lockout on December 2. This labor dispute could threaten the 2027 season. Owners are pushing for a salary cap, citing the struggles of small-market teams. The Brewers' win occurred during a period of significant labor tension in baseball.
