The Kansas City Chiefs lost their first game of the 2026 season on Sunday night in Seattle, falling 27 to 19 to the Seahawks. The result ends a perfect start for the defending champions and forces them to evaluate their receiving corps ahead of the November 10 trade deadline. General Manager Brett Veach will likely seek additional depth at wide receiver, as the group combined for only six catches and 39 yards against the Seahawks defense.
The defensive effort against running back Kenneth Walker III was the defining factor of the game. Walker III, the first Super Bowl MVP to play against his former team in the following season, entered the week leading the league with 665 rushing yards. The Seahawks employed a two-deep safety alignment for much of the contest and limited Walker III to 36 yards on 14 carries. He did not record a single carry of 10 yards or more.
On the other side of the ball, Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold threw for 257 yards and one touchdown on 20 of 28 completions. He avoided being sacked for the first time in three weeks after taking five hits in each of the previous two games. However, the victory was not without error, as Darnold threw his eighth interception in the last five games late in the first half. The ball was picked off in the end zone after a throw into traffic on second down.
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the offense with 129 receiving yards in the first half, the most by a Seahawk in a single half since Tyler Lockett in 2020. He now leads the NFL with 867 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. According to ESPN Research, he is the first player since 1966 to reach 850 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in a team's first seven games. Smith-Njigba credited the team's resilience for the win, stating, "Our backs were against the wall. How we came out here as a brotherhood and fought .. the resiliency of our team is something special, and we're going to keep going."
The Chiefs return home on Sunday to face the Denver Broncos at 4:25 p.m. ET. The Seahawks host the Chicago Bears on November 2 at 8:15 p.m. ET. Patrick Mahomes scored a season-low six fantasy points in the loss, throwing for 165 yards and no touchdowns. He has averaged 12.4 fantasy points per game over his last four outings.
