Southwest Legacy volleyball players have rewritten their program's history book.
The Titans earned their first-ever playoff spot by defeating the Southwest Dragons. This victory marks a new standard for the team, which has never previously advanced to the postseason.
Head coach Amanda Esparza, in her second year leading the squad, attributes the breakthrough to sustained effort. She noted that while the current season began in July, the foundation was laid last year. Esparza emphasized that the players trusted the coaching staff to execute their plan, a trust she described as essential for reaching this moment.
Two key players have also reached individual career milestones. Junior Alaynnah Martinez recently recorded her 1,000th assist and 1,000th dig. Senior Lindsey Ortega also surpassed 1,000 career digs. Both athletes stated their focus is on winning and setting an example for younger teammates through daily gym work.
The Titans face O'Connor in the bi-district round on Thursday. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the South San Durbon Center. Esparza said the team is confident in its future, expecting future coaches to maintain the same high standards of mental and physical preparation.
