Seven local leaders will appear on a television panel to debate the rules governing artificial intelligence. The group includes San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones. The episode airs at 8 p.m. this Tuesday on KLRN.
The program is titled "AI: Who’s in Control?" UC Davis law professor Aaron Tang hosts the discussion. He poses specific questions to the participants. One question asks if towns can use cameras to identify people who might commit a crime in the future.
The show is produced by WGBH in Boston. It has received an Emmy nomination. The series aims to help people with different beliefs find common ground on difficult topics. The current episode focuses on how much government should regulate the technology.
The timing of the broadcast coincides with active deliberations in local, state, and federal offices. Lawmakers are currently weighing limits on AI development. Residents are also concerned about the physical impact of the industry. New data centers are appearing in neighborhoods, and workers worry about job losses.
The episode will stream live on the KLRN website during the broadcast. Viewers can also watch previous episodes for free. These are available on demand through the station's site or the PBS App.
