BYD is set to launch its largest and most luxurious electric sedan in the United Arab Emirates, bypassing its home market for the global debut of its flagship vehicle. Hu Xiaoqing, general manager of the Yangwang sub-brand, confirmed this week that the vehicle's introduction will take place in the UAE, though a specific date for the release has not been provided.

The upcoming model aims directly at ultra-luxury marques such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach. This push into the high-end sector marks a departure for a manufacturer historically associated with affordable transportation, such as the Seagull, a compact hatchback priced under $10,000 in China. The vehicle's silhouette has been described as comparable to the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Hu Xiaoqing released images of the executive sedan last month while it was undergoing testing. Despite the disguise, reports indicate the vehicle measures approximately 5,500 mm (216 inches) in length, matching the dimensions of a Maybach S-Class or Rolls-Royce Phantom. Zheng Yu, executive general manager of Yangwang, stated that the car will feature "unprecedented disruptive technology," though specifics regarding the hardware were not disclosed.

Technical details can be inferred from the vehicle's appearance at a BYD Flash Charging station, suggesting support for megawatt-level rapid charging. The model is reportedly the first to incorporate BYD's solid-state batteries and features rear-hinged coach doors, a configuration not previously used by the manufacturer. Executive vice president Stella Li told Carwow.es last month that the company's first solid-state battery vehicle would debut in 2027.

The sedan is expected to make its official debut this month, with rumored pricing beginning in the 2 million yuan range, or approximately $300,000. This valuation places the car significantly above the manufacturer's current lineup, which includes the U7 electric sedan starting at 658,000 yuan ($98,000) and the U8 and U8L plug-in hybrid luxury off-road SUVs.

The manufacturer's structure includes three sub-brands: Denza, FangChengBao, and Yangwang, alongside the Dynasty and Ocean families under the BYD name itself. Yangwang occupies the top of that hierarchy and serves as a platform for the company's newest technologies, including the quad-motor e4 platform capable of 1,300 horsepower and the DiSus-X intelligent body control system, which allows a vehicle to "dance," jump, and drive on three wheels.
