Scattered showers moved across the Pikes Peak Region, Pueblo County, and the eastern plains on Thursday evening, setting the stage for a wet weekend. Overnight lows settled in the 40s and 50s across most of the area, but conditions worsened to the west. Heavy rainfall continued in the San Juan Mountains and the southwestern corner, where flood watches, severe thunderstorm watches, and flood warnings remained in effect due to risks of flooding and mudslides.
The weather in Colorado Springs stayed warmer than average on Friday, with a high of 73 and a low of 51. Early morning showers gave way to a drier, sunnier afternoon. Winds picked up as a cold front approached from the west, signaling the change in air mass.
Pueblo faced a wetter Friday, with a high of 81 and on-and-off showers throughout the day. Canon City reached 75 after a low of 54, experiencing a brief lull in moisture by the afternoon. That pause ended Friday night when the front and a new push of moisture arrived, carrying rain into the weekend.
Woodland Park remained above seasonal averages with a high of 56, while the plains warmed to 83. In the mountains, a low of 41 and a high of 59 accompanied persistent heavy rain and flood risks that lasted into Friday and the weekend. Snow levels were expected to drop once the front passed.
Gusts of 40 to 45 mph strengthened Friday and continued through the weekend. The cold front crossed Colorado early Saturday, lowering temperatures by 10 to 15 degrees to below average. Tropical moisture shifted east, delivering additional precipitation to the region. Total rain accumulations ranged from 0.10 to 0.75 inches.
Forecasters predicted the area would dry out the following week. Temperatures returned to more seasonal levels after the weekend system moved through.
