Samsung is set to release a final foldable smartphone in China on October 29, according to a leak from the tech analyst Ice Universe. The device, identified as the Galaxy W27, will be available exclusively in the Chinese market. This release concludes Samsung's foldable product cycle for the current year.

The W27 is not a new hardware design but a rebranding of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. Ice Universe shared images of the device showing a glossy blue back panel with gold accents surrounding the triple-camera array. This styling follows a long-standing annual tradition where Samsung releases a special, China-only variant of its top-tier foldable. These special editions typically feature distinct cosmetic changes and elaborate packaging to appeal to local buyers.

The decision to base the W27 on the Ultra model rather than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is the key differentiator for this cycle. The standard Z Fold 8 features a new, wide-format shape that has been well received by customers. By choosing the Ultra hardware, Samsung is prioritizing the premium segment for this exclusive release. This choice mirrors the 2024 strategy, where the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition received a wider distribution as a precursor to the next major design shift.

The timing of the launch coincides with a surge in market interest for wide-format foldables in China. Competitors such as Huawei have been producing wide foldables for several years, and Xiaomi's latest device shares a nearly identical form factor to the current Samsung standard model. Industry analysts predict that foldable display shipments will increase by 44% in 2026, driven largely by the arrival of these wider devices.

Samsung has recently reinforced the commercial success of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 line, noting that the release of the iPhone Duo has increased attention on foldable categories. The company has also pushed Android 17 updates to several existing Galaxy devices. While Samsung has multiple new foldables planned for the following year, the W27 represents the final hardware release for 2026 if the leaked schedule holds.

The W27 launch will take place six days after the initial leak report. The device will enter the market alongside the standard Z Fold 8, which remains the primary global offering. This release pattern ensures that Samsung maintains a premium, localized product line in China while the global market focuses on the new standard shape.
