Netflix announced on Tuesday that John Goodman will join the cast of the second season of 'The Beast in Me.' The network confirmed that Goodman will play Jack, the father of Aggie Wiggs, a role performed by Claire Danes in the first season.
The platform revealed plans for a second season in September. At that time, Danes was confirmed to return to her Season 1 role. Specific plot details for the upcoming episodes have not yet been disclosed.
Goodman brings extensive television experience to the production. He has received 11 Emmy nominations over his career, seven of which were for his lead role in the sitcom 'Roseanne.' He won the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a drama in 2007 for his work on 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.' He later returned as Dan Conner for the 'Roseanne' revival, which was renamed 'The Conners' and ran for seven additional seasons.
His other television credits include 'The Righteous Gemstones' on HBO and 'Damages' on FX. On the big screen, he has collaborated repeatedly with the Coen brothers, appearing in 'Raising Arizona,' 'Barton Fink,' 'The Big Lebowski,' and 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' His filmography also includes 'Digger,' 'Argo,' and 'Flight.' Goodman is represented by Gersh and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
The series was originally announced as a limited series when Netflix acquired the rights in 2024. It competed in that category at this year's Emmy Awards. Season 1 star Matthew Rhys won the Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a limited or anthology series. The show also received the award for outstanding music composition for a limited or anthology series, movie, or special.
Following the model of 'Big Little Lies,' which transitioned from a limited project to a continuing series, Netflix and the production team began considering a second season. They opened a writers' room earlier this year to develop the new episodes.
Howard Gordon, who served as showrunner for the first season, will act as co-showrunner for Season 2 alongside Daniel Pearle, an executive producer on the original run. Gabe Rotter remains the creator and an executive producer. Danes will again serve as an executive producer in addition to starring. The executive producing team also includes Antonio Campos, Caroline Baron, Amy Lippman, Conan O'Brien, David Kissinger, Jeff Ross, and Jodie Foster. The series is produced by 20th Television.
