Apple has released the iPhone Duo, the company's first foldable smartphone. The device ships without a power adapter or stylus, meaning users must purchase additional hardware to access specific features. Tech publication 9to5Mac calculated that buyers need to spend up to $249 on extra gear for full functionality.
Stylus support is a new addition for the iPhone lineup. Apple Pencil (USB-C) compatibility will arrive in the iOS 27.2 update next week. The update allows users to write on both the outer and inner displays. Apple designed the interface based on the proportions of a standard A-series paper notebook. The stylus is priced at $69, reduced from its previous $79 cost.
Fast charging requires a compatible power adapter. The iPhone Duo can charge to 50 percent in approximately 20 minutes. The retail box includes a USB-C cable but no charger. To achieve maximum speed, 9to5Mac recommends the Apple 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max, priced at $34. An alternative is the Anker 100W USB-C charger, available for $29.
Accessories for drivers and protection are also available. The ESR MagSafe Car Mount costs $19, down from $29. It holds the phone magnetically while displaying navigation data. Case options include the SPIDERCASE Magnetic Case at $29 and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid Pro at $39. Apple sells its own Folio with Kickstand for $129 and a standard case for $79.
The new StandBy mode displays smart home information without charging. This feature supports Home Camera and Home Modular views. 9to5Mac suggests two HomeKit-compatible security cameras for this use. The Aqara G100 2K camera is listed at $39. The eufy 4K camera is priced at $69. A separate recommendation is the AirPods Pro 3, currently on sale for $199, down from $249.
