Four people sustained injuries when a vehicle fired shots outside a licensed venue in Loganholme, Queensland, on Saturday evening. Queensland police responded to reports at 8:15 p.m. that gunfire had erupted from a car near Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road.
The venue was hosting the Logan City Titles Fight Night, a boxing event scheduled for that night. Police stated that the vehicle involved was observed leaving the scene immediately after the incident. All four injured individuals were transported to a hospital for assessment of their conditions. No further details regarding the severity of their wounds were released at the time of the report.
Deputy commander Chris Stream of Queensland police described the scene as confronting. He confirmed that multiple individuals suffered gunshot wounds. Officers have not identified the suspects, who remain at large. Police indicated that they do not currently view the incident as an ongoing threat to the general public and are requesting information from witnesses.
Logan mayor Jon Raven told the Today show that residents in the area expressed fear following the event. Raven noted that the community had not experienced a similar incident before. He stated that the shooting would have a lasting effect on the people present that evening, many of whom were children attending a family-friendly environment.
Raven explained that the event was organized to encourage young people to engage in boxing as a positive outlet. He said the organizer uses the sport to empower youth and reconnect those who might otherwise stray from productive paths. Raven said the organizer would be devastated by the outcome, as the incident contradicted the event's intent.
The Logan City Titles organization released a statement on social media on Sunday morning. The group described the night as a community showcase for local talent and hard work. The statement declared that such incidents have no place in the boxing community or the wider public sphere.
