Pet owners who rely on satellite technology to locate missing animals can save on hardware this weekend. The company Fi is reducing the price of its satellite-connected trackers by 30 percent through October 25. Shoppers must enter the code SCARY at checkout to receive the reduction.
The discount applies to several models, including the Fi Ultra GPS. At the reduced rate, the Fi Ultra costs $209.30. This price matches the device's original launch cost from when it first entered the market. The promotion runs for the final two days of the current sales period.
The Fi Ultra is designed for harsh conditions and carries an IP68 rating for full waterproofing in saltwater. It clips onto a collar or harness and uses a combination of LTE, GPS, and Starlink satellite coverage to determine a pet's location. This mix allows the device to function in areas where standard cellular service is absent. The unit can also vibrate or play sounds to alert a dog to its presence. Fi states that this is the first tracker to combine T-Satellite, Starlink, GPS, and LTE in a single device.
Battery life for the device reaches up to five days under normal use, depending on the dog's activity level. However, performance varies by situation. The Verge tested the unit in a remote area of South Carolina earlier this year and found tracking to be precise. The location update interval of two to three minutes may not be fast enough for highly active dogs. In Lost Mode, a full charge lasted only two days. The physical size of the tracker also makes it a better fit for larger breeds.
An active subscription is required to use the tracking features. Fi offers discounted rates on the first term of service. A one-year plan costs $99 for the initial year and $189 for each subsequent year. These plans are valid only within the United States and do not include satellite coverage for Alaska.
The price drop ends on Sunday, October 25. After that date, the Fi Ultra will return to its standard price point. The coupon code SCARY remains valid through the end of the promotion window.
