Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan arrived in Kyiv on Monday with three senior ministers to negotiate energy deals and accelerate the country's path to the European Union.
Tofan is accompanied by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Defence Anatolie Nosatîi, and Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu. The delegation landed as part of a working visit outlined by the Moldovan government. Their agenda centers on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional security concerns.
This trip follows a series of high-level contacts in early October. On October 12, Tofan stated he was considering purchasing natural gas from Ukraine to meet domestic needs. Two days later, on October 14, Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal met with Tofan to discuss winter preparations and shared energy challenges. President Maia Sandu also indicated that Moldova is ready to accept new Ukrainian refugees if the humanitarian situation worsens.
Tofan will hold meetings with Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. The two prime ministers will discuss economic cooperation and trade development. The Moldovan government stated that both leaders will also review their respective paths toward EU membership.
On the same day, Tofan and Koretskyi will participate in the Kyiv International Economic Forum. The event focuses on investment opportunities and the development of economic partnerships between the two nations.
