Android 17 has arrived on the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India, arriving ahead of the company's original timeline. This specific rollout marks a structural shift for the brand, as it is the first time these devices are receiving the update under the ColorOS banner rather than OxygenOS.
OnePlus established OxygenOS as its primary software layer years ago. Initially, the interface was a lightweight modification of stock Android. Over time, it converged with Oppo's ColorOS as the companies aligned their global operations. When OnePlus announced it would scale back its independent global footprint, it confirmed that OxygenOS would be phased out in favor of the shared Oppo platform.
The stable update began distribution in India on October 23. The software had been available to beta testers for a period prior to this date. The move accelerates the company's previous schedule, which targeted an October 29 release for the first wave of devices.
OnePlus framed the release around artificial intelligence integration. The company stated that ColorOS 17 is designed to provide smarter experiences and smoother interactions. The update aims to reduce friction when moving between tasks and devices, with a focus on using AI to assist in turning ideas into finished work.
The current update is limited to the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4. Other models, including previous flagship generations and the Nord series, have been confirmed for future updates. The next scheduled wave will reach the OnePlus 13 on October 30.
The rollout in other regions is expected to follow in the coming days. No specific dates have been confirmed for markets outside of India beyond the October 30 milestone.
This transition follows a period of operational changes for the brand. Reports indicated that the OnePlus 15 and other recent models sold out in the United States after the company reduced its global operations. The company has also introduced the OnePlus 16, which features a 9,000 mAh battery.
