Ohio voters face a choice between retaining current leadership or replacing it, a decision framed by former President Barack Obama on Saturday. Speaking at a Democratic rally, he cited the $2 trillion cost of the United States war against Iran as evidence of administrative missteps.
Obama argued that the conflict was unnecessary and unrequested. He told the crowd that two years of governance have been marked by what he described as chaos and incompetence. His remarks aimed to link federal policy outcomes directly to the state-level races currently in focus.
The former president also addressed a dispute in the gubernatorial contest. Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy ran an advertisement featuring Amy Acton’s mother, Donna Arthur. The ad contradicts Acton’s account of childhood homelessness and abuse. Arthur urged voters to withhold support for her daughter, while Acton stated she has not seen her mother since 1978.
Obama sided with Acton, noting that her brother supports her narrative. The stepfather referenced in the claims died in 2004 after being charged with rape. Obama described Acton’s story as moving and rooted in painful experiences of neglect and abuse.
Sherrod Brown, the former Democratic senator seeking to unseat Jon Husted, shared the stage with Obama. Current polling shows Democrats holding a slight lead in both the governor and senate races. Results are expected to be close given the narrow margins in recent surveys.
