Google Cuts Gemini Android Navigation To Five Recent Chats
A server-side update consolidates scattered settings into a single page and restricts the visible chat history to reduce clutter for Android users.

Five is the new limit for recent chat visibility in the Gemini app on Android. Google is rolling out a redesign that caps the initial view to five items, forcing users to tap a "More" option to access older conversations.
The change arrives via a server-side update, meaning no new app download is required. This deployment follows a recent shift from "Spark" to "Task" nomenclature. The interface overhaul centralizes controls that were previously fragmented across different menus.
In the side panel, the search function has moved to the top-right corner. New chat remains the first entry, but Library now sits directly beneath it rather than near the bottom of the drawer. For AI Ultra subscribers, the expanded list includes Images, Scheduled, Daily brief, Customize, Students, Videos, and Gems.
Settings have undergone a similar consolidation. Previously, user preferences were split between the account menu and a separate "Gemini Settings" area. Google has merged these into one page. The account menu now handles only account switching, feedback, and help requests.
The new unified Settings page begins with Manage account and Usage limits. A Preferences section follows, listing Notifications, Personal Intelligence, Avatar, Task settings, Theme, Skills, Voice, Media, Device controls, Cart and orders, and Gemini Notebook. Theme is marked as a new addition in this list.
Data and privacy options, including Import memory, Contact info from your devices, and Gemini Apps Activity, appear in a dedicated section. A final section provides support tools such as Report a problem and Updates. These same interface changes reached iOS, macOS, and web platforms last week alongside the launch of Gemini 4 Argon.
Recent app developments also include Gemini Notebook becoming a Connected App for deeper integration. Free users are shifting to "Auto" models as the app adds thinking levels, and a new "Map" tool has replaced the "/" shortcut with "@".
